Wooden Truss Lift Failure

An 80 foot wooden roof truss broke as it was being lifted into place on a lumber warehouse building construction project. The broken end severely injured one of the construction crew when it hit him in the head. The testimony of most witnesses confirmed the truss was not rigged properly when lifted by the crane operator.

Drake Exhibits documented the building site, failed truss and crane used for lifting in order to reconstruct the accident scene in a computer model. Images created from the model were combined with photos of truss lift tests and graphics demonstrating the proper and improper way to rig the truss.
