An electrical fault in underground cables caused an arc flash and serious injury to a construction worker who later sued the cable company alleging the cable was defective.
For the defense, Drake Exhibits recreated the site with an innovative scale model comprised of a progressive series of cross-sections modeling the two manholes, connecting duct, surrounding strata, transformer location and substation floor.
Drake also produced a life-sized cross-section of the duct illustrating its cables, protective sheathing and conduit. Both models were used to demonstrate that improper construction practices rather than product defects caused the accident.
