Switchgear Arc Flash

Working near live bus bars in a switchgear cabinet, two electricians were severely burned when they made contact with live electrical elements, causing an arc flash and fire.

Using post-accident photographs and measurements from the site, Drake Exhibits developed a life-sized model of the cabinet that included a clear acrylic side panel; a design element that creatively provided interior views of the cabinet and illustrated critical distances between bus bars and cabinet sides. The defense team used Drake's exhibits to demonstrate proper versus improper work procedures and show that faulty work practices rather than incorrect cabinet configuration caused the accident.
