A fire started on the roof of Transkeryotic Therapies facility in Cambridge, MA and quickly spread over a large area destroying most of the roof top HVAC equipment and causing extensive damage to the interior and contents of the building.
Fire investigators determined that the foil wrap used to cover the insulation on the ductwork contained a bituminous material that fueled the fire and caused it to spread everywhere the wrapped ductwork was located.
Jeff Drake measured and recorded the physical configuration of all the damaged and peripheral ductwork and documented the damage patterns to the ductwork and membrane roof surface.
Drake then created a 3D computer model of the roof and ductwork. Before and after views were developed to illustrate the pattern of fire spread. These were used in the Fire Experts report and then as exhibits during mediation.
